May 28th: Yokoso Nippon

Touched down in Japan on May 27th at about 6pm. Took me about 2 hours on the JR express train to reach a suburban town of Sakado in the Saitama perfecture. Weather is nice, probably about 68F (20C).First thing first, went to onsen (hot springs bath) with my girl and in laws, followed by a sushi meal washed down with a mug of kirin beer and ocha (green tea), cathartic..

Up since 3am, still trying to overcome that jet lag. Today I am going to visit my in-laws future burial ground. For those who are thinking this as some kind of morbid joke; elders here actually have to make 'advanced booking' of their own lot when they are being cremated. Lots do not come cheap. Cremation are being practiced by the more congested cities in Asia in order to save spaces for other public developmental activities. As a Gaijin (foreigner), there are certainly eye-opening experience.

Desperately seek some kind of English papers but to no avail, luckily my ten years of learning the Chinese language allows me to at least read the kanji (chinese characters) on most public signs here. Having stayed in America, I mistaken most two-way streets here as one way. Most people take subway and buses to work. Subway station are packed with commuters, it's as if you're in the middle of a busy bee hive atwork. Then the houses are also smaller, I can reached up and touched the ceiling in the restroom (called toilet here). AC are available but Nihonjin (japanese) at home or driving rarely use them, even on warmer days. My in-laws are amazed by my insatiable appetite for udon (ricenoodles), those are great.Time now is about 530am, time to go get some Ma-Ku-Do-Na-Ru-Do(MacDonald) breakfast.
